Lesley Wilks
Director and Make up Artist
Welcome to my world! Colour Lounge life! I’m Lesley and let me tell you my inspirations and aspirations about running Colour Lounge.
I’m a true optimist and have the ideal of ‘why can’t it all be perfect?’ I’m very passionate about my industry more so now than when I began this journey and see this in the way I run my business; I’m a leader with a team player mentality. Hairdressing and beauty? We’re on an adventure and my intention has always been to be the salon that’s always the leader not the follower! I have a reputation for being inventive and won’t let anything beat me!
My career began 28 years ago in hairdressing and beauty when I was given a VOGUE beauty book by my mum. After qualifying in hair and beauty I went on to work for Schwarzkopf professional and worked my way up to the position of manager and dealt with the best people in the industry, this inspired me to open my own salon.
I opened my original salon Lloyds Hair in Dec 1999 and within 5 months we won national awards including Best Salon Newcomer. We had very quickly outgrown Lloyds and I wanted to offer something new and exciting to the area, Colour Lounge opened in April 2003. Again we became nationally recognised and my personal best achievement so far was winning Best Business newcomer and Overall Business Woman of the Year. My passion for excellence has never changed; everything IS about the attention to detail and exceeding expectations! My true passion has always been in make up which I am very lucky to be able to carry out now as a make up artist and not worry about the business so much everyday, as I have such a great team behind me. My dream would be to do Cheryl Cole’s make up (although doing Beverley Knights takes some beating!).
At home my life is very different having an entire house of boys (a husband, 2 football mad boys and a boy dog!) I often get asked how I manage to juggle it all? Well I am a woman after all!!!
Julie Ewen
Group Co-Ordinator
Hi I’m Julie, my role involves me organizing the day to day running in the salons and co-ordinating our fantastic tight knit team, ensuring every clients experience with us runs smoothly. All this as well as doing all the jobs Lesley hates (like opening junk mail and dealing with irritating reps!) but I love my job. Often you will see me hosting the front of house, meeting and greeting clients old and new.
I have an extensive wealth of knowledge in the hairdressing world; I have been in the industry for 28 years and still do a bit of hair now for weddings and backstage events that we do! I am a huge fan of our fabulous eyelash extensions and can’t live without them now! Away from the hustle and bustle of my job, I am happiest out walking my crazy doodle dog with my two wonderful daughters. Bliss!
